Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York Announces 2009 Adopt An Angel® Campaign For Wishes

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York will launch its 17th Annual Adopt An Angel® campaign on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.. The campaign will begin with a Kickoff Celebration at Crossgates Mall, One Crossgates Mall Road, Albany. The campaign continues through January 3, 2010. All proceeds will benefit the chapter’s wish granting program.

The campaign goal is to raise $200,000 this year. This will grant at least 20 wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions in the 15 counties that comprise the 518 area code.

Adopt An Angel features the stories of six children or teens who have had their wish granted, or soon to be granted, by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York. These children serve as ambassadors for the 2009 campaign and will be formally introduced at the Kickoff Event. This year’s ambassadors are:

Samantha Sagnelli, Age 11 from Clifton Park - “I Wish To Have a Hawaiian Themed Birthday Bash”

Tyler Supernor, Age 4 from Whitehall - “I Wish To Go To Walt Disney World Resort®”

Kolby Doemel, Age 7 from Cohoes - “I Wish To Go To Walt Disney World Resort®”

Domenico Nanci, Age 17 from Schenectady - “I Wish To Meet the Pittsburgh Steelers”

Troy Fiorillo, Age 5 from Amsterdam - “I Wish To Have a Room Makeover”

Regina McGuire, Age 12 from Ravena - “I Wish To Have a Violin”

Each child’s story is told on a paper angel that resembles an ornament. Angels are available for a $3.00 donation (or 6 for $15.00) at Aviation Mall, Boscov’s in Colonie Center (November 27 – 29), Crossgates Mall, Rotterdam Square (weekends only), Wilton Mall (weekends only) and every branch of First Niagara Bank. Angels are also available at local schools and businesses. They may also be ordered by mail or phone at 782-4673 for $3.75 each (includes shipping and handling) through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York office. Wish Family Holiday Party

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York cordially invites our wish families to our annual Holiday Party.

The party will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Karigon/Orenda Elementary School Cafeteria (Shenendehowa Central School District campus).

Come and join the fun. There will be entertainment, games, music and dancing. Dessert and beverages will be served. Santa will also stop by with gifts for all the children in attendance.

Take the Northway I87 to Exit 9. Head west on Route 146. At the fourth light, take a left onto the main campus. Take your first right (it is a quick right), Orenda/Karigon is the first building on the right. There are 2 doors at the main entrance, go through the right-hand door. (Karigon)

Arriving from West of Clifton Park:
Take Route 146 heading east until you past the Pizza Hut until you arrive at a light (school entrance). Turn right (it is a quick right) onto the main campus, then right again. I Wish To Have a Swimming Pool

Wyatt, a four-year-old from Fort Covington, has always wanted a pool. He suffers from leukemia and when he was referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York the chapter wanted to make his wish come true.

Wyatt received his pool at his home in Fort Covington. He loves swimming and playing with his water toys. Wyatt’s wish was sponsored by Jewelers for Children, a charitable organization founded by the U.S. jewelry industry. Jewelers for Children joined with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America to grant wishes to children across the country.

Melissa Mose, one of Wyatt’s Wish Granters said, “This is a very special family and I can already see the difference in Wyatt’s energy and enthusiasm” said Mose.

Wyatt will be able to enjoy his swimming pool for many years to come.

Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York Grants Wish To North Country Boy To Visit the John Deere Factory

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York granted a wish for a young boy to visit the John Deere Factory. Dylan, a 7-year-old from Saranac, had his wish come true when he visited the John Deere in Moline, IL. This wish was the first of its kind for the Foundation.

Dylan was 3 when he was diagnosed with leukemia. His medical provider at Vermont Children’s Hospital referred him to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York. He always knew that he wanted to visit the John Deere Factory because of his love for tractors.

While at the John Deere facility, Dylan visited an equipment test site and saw a tractors and other machinery. He also was able to dig a hole with an excavator and drove a combine. After the tour of the facility was over, Dylan received all types of John Deere products. He received a T-shirt, blanket, backpack, lunch box and tractor related items.

“We are delighted to be able to provide Dylan with his heartfelt wish, to visit the John Deere Factory. It was his lifelong dream that we were proud to make come true,” said William C. Trigg, III, Chief Executive Officer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York.

Write a letter to Santa and help make wishes come true.

Starting in November, bring your stamped letter to Macy’s addressed to Santa At The North Pole, and drop it into the special Santa letterbox. The letters will be counted, and for each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation up to $1,000,000. The letters will be brought to the Post Office for mailing to Santa.

I Wish To Go To The John Deere Factory

Dylan, a 7-year-old from Saranac, NY loves tractors. His wish to visit the John Deere Headquarters in Moline, IL was a dream that came true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York.

Dylan was 3 when he was diagnosed with leukemia. His medical provider at Vermont Children’s Hospital referred him to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York. When he was asked what his heartfelt wish was, he knew right away….visit the John Deere Factory.

His journey began with a limo ride to the Albany train station. From there Dylan and his family took the train to Union Station in Chicago. Then it was on to the John Deere Factory in Moline (about 165 miles from Chicago).

The John Deere facility was just amazing. Dylan visited the John Deere store, an equipment test site and saw a huge number of tractors and machinery. The highlight of his trip was when he dug a hole with an excavator and drove a combine. After the tour of the facility was over, Dylan received all types of John Deere products. He received a T-shirt, blanket, backpack, lunch box and of course….lots of tractor related items.

His trip to the John Deere Factory was the wish of a lifetime.

Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York Fundraiser A Huge Success

Gourmet food, fine wine and spirits and premium cigars were part of a successful fundraising event to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast New York.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York’s 3rd Annual A Night of Exquisite Tastes fundraiser was a huge success attracting 200 guests and raising approximately $35,000. The event was held on September 11 at the Albany Country Club. Event partners were Park-Lane Tobacconist and Edleez Tobacco Inc.

The guests enjoyed outstanding wines and spirits, along with gourmet foods from 12 of the area’s finest restaurants and a selection of 24 premium cigars. The evening also included a silent auction which featured more than 100 offerings donated by sponsors and local area businesses, including a miniature football helmet signed by the New York Giants football team.
