Cohoes, NY (Nov. 21, 2012) The Kristy Pollak Memorial Christmas Lights, a sparkling tradition in Amsterdam, is back for its 15th season with opening ceremonies on Dec. 6. Events start at 5:30 pm, highlighted by the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus on a fire truck at 6:30 pm. Visitors can enjoy holiday train rides through the light display and horse and wagon rides as well. These special celebrations will take place Dec. 6 and 7 from 5:30-9:30 pm, and Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
Donations will be accepted in lieu of an admissions fee to benefit Make-A-Wish Northeast New York, and help fulfill wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions from Fulton and Montgomery Counties. Donation boxes will be out through Jan. 1, 2014.
The drive-through display, located on Lyon Street, will be lit each evening Nov. 21 through Jan. 1 from 5-10 pm. Included in the festivities are: a holiday train ride through the park, saddle horse and pony rides, and a visit to Santa’s workshop.
“Through our partnership with this annual event, and with event coordinator Dave Falso and his volunteers, Make-A-Wish Northeast New York has built awareness of our mission, and enabled us to grant the wishes of children from the local area,” said William C. Trigg III, CEO of the local Make-A-Wish Chapter. He added that nine children from Fulton or Montgomery Counties were among the 90 or so who received wishes in the past year through the efforts of the local chapter.
“We appreciate the support of those who make donations when they visit the light display,” and want them to know that their support helps “brighten the lives of seriously ill local children,” he said.
