George Sicard was honored for his 25 years of volunteering for the Chapter at a Wish Granter Appreciation Night at Franklin Plaza in Troy. The original wish granters, Tommy and Kay Austin, spoke at the March event.
Sicard, a retired Glens Falls firefighter, has climbed mountains for Make-A-Wish, and organized motorcycle rallies. He said he was “not looking for another cause” when a friend approached him about wish granting in 1993. Hundreds, if not thousands of hours of volunteering later, he has no regrets.
“If you are a true wish granter,” he said, “you will take away more from it than you will give.”
The Austins presented service certificates to wish granters at the event. The Chapter has dubbed this The Year of the Wish Granter.
“You are the most important asset we have,” Tommy Austin told them. “Without you, we couldn’t do what we do. You are the very heart of the organization.”
