The Walk raises awareness for the Make-A-Wish mission, engages different communities while celebrating The Power of A Wish, and raises funds that make a difference in the lives of children with critical illnesses.
And … it’s a lot of fun!
Form your team now ahead of the sixth annual event on Saturday, Aug, 10. Sign up your friends, your family, your co-workers – it’s up to you -- and join wish kids and families, corporations, schools and community groups.
“It is such an inspiring day,” said Director of Development Kirsten Broschinsky. “You are surrounded on all sides by the mission of Make-A-Wish as we see Wish Families lead the event, followed closely by the extended families, friends, teachers, colleagues and so many more that support our Wish Families through their journeys. Then all of that is just added to by the many members of our community that come out to show their support for the mission! There is no better way to spend a Saturday morning.”
The Walk will commence at 10 a.m. that Saturday, with same-day registration beginning at 8 a.m. and opening ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. A family friendly event that is wheelchair accessible, the three-mile route in and around the campus of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy begins with a “Victory Lap” around the ballpark. (There is also an optional one-mile route.)
Walkers can register now at http://site.wish.org/walkneny. Participants can set up teams and solicit donations, or just make their own. If you raise at least $100, you get a prized Walk for Wishes T-shirt.
Last August, a record 600-plus participants raised more than $125,000 – a 33-percent jump over the year before and exceeding the Chapter’s goal. There were 47 teams, the largest number ever for the Chapter, aided by nearly 60 volunteers.
This year will be even bigger. See you champions there.
