For Matthew, the idea of the Navy is exhilarating. His wish to visit the new ships and crew members was granted beyond his wildest dreams!
For 14-year-old Matthew, his heartfelt wish was to see some of the newest ships, aircraft and advanced military equipment. So, when he qualified for a wish, he chose to visit the US Navy fleet at Naval Station Norfolk, in Virginia.
His wish trip included tours of both aircraft and ships, and he even received a hands-on tour of the Strike Fighter Squadron 81. Known as the "Sunliners", this is a squadron of high- tech Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter jets, stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana. Matthew met the crews and even got to fly in a training plane!
Treated as a real “shipmate” by the Navy crews, Matthew received his own flight jacket with official patch-es from various units. He spent time with a helicopter crew, and was saluted by a line of sailors as he boarded the ships and aircraft.
Matthew’s trip to the Navy fleet was one his dad said that he’ll never forget. This visit helped give Matthew a true sense of his dream of becoming a Navy crew member someday.
