It’s that feeling everyone dreams of, being on the beach with toes in the water surrounded by pristine white beaches. For 9-year-old Ali, diagnosed with cancer two years before, that’s all it was — a dream. Ali had become all too familiar with the inside of a hospital, going through multiple treatments and being stuck inside drab walls dreaming of paradise.
When his family was referred to Make-A-Wish® Northeast New York, there wasn’t a moment of hesitation. Ali knew he wanted to travel, to have a real escape for him and his family away from his medical struggles. An escape that would take all of them far away.
All the way to Hawaii.
Ali’s adventures took him to the beautiful beaches of the tropical paradise and beyond. He also got to go ziplining, horseback riding, play the ukulele and see the inside of a pineapple factory!
“Ali and our whole family cannot express what this trip means to us,” said Ali’s mother Sabrina. “This trip was everything we dreamed of and more.
“Watching Ali learn to surf, play the ukulele and spend almost every other waking moment in the water … he beamed throughout the whole trip. We all did. This trip made us feel lighter than air.”
