Tracker Wager knew he was in for a good day: It was Opening Day of his Johnstown Little League season -- and his 10th birthday.
What he didn’t know was that right after his game, right on the field, he would learn that his wish to go to Walt Disney World was being granted by Make-A-Wish® Northeast New York.
“I expected it to be granted, but not that soon,” the catcher said after his Clean Air of Johnstown beat NBT Bank of Fonda, 7-6. “I love amusement parks and water slides.”
The family referred Tracker, who has a heart condition, to Make-A-Wish on April 16. By May 25, they were in Orlando.
Michelle and Rob Iannacone and Melissa Harvey served as the wish granters; Tracker was the very first wish for each.
“We saw an opportunity to work with younger kids and families that need extra love,” Rob Iannacone said.
Both teams and teams and families at the Johnstown Little League Park applauded the wish reveal. Afterward, the players ate pizza – and birthday cake.
“It’s amazing,” said his mother, Emily. “It’s something you hear about. We’re not used to this kind of thing.”
